Supporting Young Migrants and Refugees with Learning Pills
Given today’s accelerated, diversified, and modernized learning setting, there is a need for accessible, inclusive, and flexible learning resources especially for individuals with barriers in attending formal schooling. The IncludeME project responds to the call by developing a package of 20 e-learning pills—concise, specific video-based learning units that would help integrate and empower young migrants and refugees in Europe.
These new materials can be accessed online and via mobile phone, offering flexible, self-directed learning with tailored, individualized content to meet the specific needs of those with disrupted, delayed, or incomplete formal education.
A Clear Focus: Literacy, Culture, and Digital Skills

The e-learning pills were specifically designed around three areas of competency:
- Literacy Skills – Developing practical communication, reading, and writing skills for everyday life.
- Cultural Competencies – Enhancing intercultural awareness, promoting social inclusion, and fostering respect for local norms and values.
- Digital Literacy – Equipping learners with the confidence and skills to navigate digital tools, platforms, and online environments safely and effectively.
Each video unit delivers bite-sized, necessary information in a visually engaging and easy-to-understand format. These learner-friendly sessions are not only highly accessible but also serve as ideal resources for youth workers, educators, and community facilitators to integrate into their daily practice.
Regarding the IncludeME Project
The IncludeME! project—Inclusive educational opportunities for migrants and refugees with poor or postponed formal education—is co-financed by the Erasmus+ programme of the European Union.
It aims to support the social, cultural, and economic integration of newly arrived young refugees and migrants. By creating accessible learning materials and training youth workers within partner organisations across Europe, the project seeks to maximize the role of non-formal education in reducing inequalities and empowering individuals.
Practical Tools with Relevance to Real Life
The 20 e-learning pills are public and free of cost. They are hosted on the project’s digital learning platform and also uploaded on YouTube for public use. Avatars used in all the videos were created from the HeyGEN app, thus making each lesson modern, relevant, and engaging.
The learning pills can be utilized:
For individual, self-directed learning,
For blended learning strategies,
For one-to-one tutoring or mentoring,
For group workshops in schools, community centers, or NGOs.
